TIM MIDDLETON
Tim took over from Neil Todd, the first CEO of ATS/CHISZ (2001-2015), in May 2015, having served as a Head of two schools in Zimbabwe (PETRA HIGH SCHOOL 1993-2002 and GATEWAY HIGH SCHOOL (2009-2015) and the Principal of BAOBAB COLLEGE in Lusaka, Zambia (2007-2009). He was the Chairman of CHISZ on two occasions (2001-2002 and 2012-2015) and so has extensive experience of the workings and philosophy of ATS/CHISZ. Tim is a popular speaker and writes widely on sporting, spiritual and educational issues in magazines and books. In his youth he represented Scotland at hockey at full international level and has been inducted into the St Andrews University Sports Hall of Fame. As a child, he attended Charterhouse School and first came to work in Zimbabwe in 1984 as a Housemaster at Falcon College.
CATH ROPER
Cath is a founder pupil at Hillcrest Prep in Mutare and for her senior schooling attended Eaglesvale Secondary. She was awarded an ATS Teaching Bursary and attended Rhodes University for 4 years, attaining a degree in Human Movement Studies, with Geography being her second major subject, and a teaching diploma. As an ATS bursary student, she was posted to Arundel School in 1998, where she originally taught junior Biography and Geography, and coached a variety of sports. She took over as Sports Director in her 4th year, and started teaching Physical Education, which she eventually taught up to A Level. She ended up staying at Arundel for 26 years where she was instrumental in the administration and coordination of various national sports events, chief among them being Organising Director for the Golden Girls Hockey Tournament for over 10 years. Her background, knowledge and understanding of the ATS values and culture allows a seamless administrative support to both the Heads and Schools.
Cath is married with 2 children, Jessica, and Andrew.
TINASHE TONODZAI
Tinashe brings with him a wealth of over 12 years’ experience with various administrative roles in business administration, organisational development and programme/project management in the education, non-profit and consulting sectors in East and Southern Africa. He is passionate about ethical, innovative and effective ways of improving organisational performance with a key focus on capacity (people/systems) development and business continuity.
Tinashe holds various qualifications in Business Management, Law, Governance and Marketing which coupled with his experience provide valuable contribution to the operational excellence of the Association. Originally from the City of Progress, Gweru, Tinashe is married to Monica and they have four children, two boys and two girls.
PAUL DAVIS
Paul Davis has had a distinguished career in education, spanning over three decades. He spent 15 years at Peterhouse, where he served as a teacher, sports coach, and deputy head. Following this, he went on to become the headmaster of Ruzawi School, a position he held for 16 years until December 2023. In addition to his school leadership roles, Paul has also chaired the Central Division and STANCO, further demonstrating his commitment to education and leadership.
The role of the ATS staff is threefold:
- To make our Heads’ job easier,
- To make our schools stronger
- To make our country greater
This will be achieved by:
- studying (and providing research),
- stirring up (by questioning and challenging),
- stimulating (by visits and talks)
- strengthening all parts of the ATS community (through courses and development)
